What is the Best Drinking Water?
The average adult human is between 50 to 65% water. I know many people that live to eat, but while you can survive 3 weeks without food, you can only live 3 days without water. I know people that drink soda like it was water and not water like it was water, and the quality of their water is not a concern. That’s not me, I want to know, “What is the Best Drinking Water?”
71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water. Water is also the air, in rivers and lakes, in icecaps and glaciers, it’s in the ground as soil moisture and in aquifers.
The most important fact is that while three-quarters of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, less than one percent (0.37% to be exact) of that water is drinkable.
What’s In Your Water
We drink, bathe, cook, and clean with it. But how much do we really know about the water that flows out of our faucets? Some areas of the country have better water than others. New York where I live has some highly rated water, but it’s still fluoridated. Then there are the nightmares like Flint, Michigan.
So, You Think Your Tap Water is Relatively Safe to Drink?
It’s true, in most American municipalities your tap water is treated for your protection, in order to kill bacteria and other organisms.
Typical Tap Water Contains:
- Fluoride
- Chlorine
- Sodium hydroxide (lye) to reduce its acidity
- Heavy Metals: lead, mercury, arsenic, radium, aluminum. copper, cadmium barium
- Hormones
- Nitrates
- Pesticides
There’s are several of these additives that I would rather not be ingesting.
The additive that most concerns me is Fluoride. I know it’s a toxic waste product from the phosphate industry. If it was released into the atmosphere or just dumped into a river it would be a crime. When it’s sold as a way to prevent cavities suddenly it’s okay. I don’t think so.
Tap Water versus Bottled Water
I understand why bottled what is so popular and such a huge business. Between soda, juices, energy drinks bottled water is, presumably, far superior… But is bottled water better than tap water?
The simple fact is one-third of all bottled water is just tap water that has been run through a filter. Water bottled from springs and streams like Fiji in most cases isn’t really any better than your tap water. In fact, in blind taste tests tap water often wins.
Most cities are constantly testing their water while bottled water companies don’t have to test. Also, flowing water has less of a chance for bacteria to build up as compared to bottled water which may be standing for months.
With the exception of a few isolated pockets of truly bad drinking water, most municipal systems and most bottled water sources are fairly equal in terms of contaminants and other health and safety issues.
On the plus side, bottled water is convenient. If money is not an issue and you don’t mind paying more for water than you do for gas, then tap water and bottled water are generally comparable in terms of safety. So the choice of tap or bottled is mostly a matter of personal preference.
Where Does That Leave Us?
There are a great many substances in tap water and bottled water that doesn’t make them the smart choice if your health is important to you.
It has been more than a year since I’ve used tap water for drinking, coffee or cooking. I only use water that has been filtered through a unit that is supposed to remove Fluoride and most other toxins. I carry my own filtered water so I seldom buy bottled water.
My shower head has a filter to remove the chlorine. I still wash my dishes and fruits and vegetables with tap water and that is not satisfactory. My search continued.
What I’ve tried… but couldn’t recommend
I’ve tried an additive called Adya that seemed to show the impurities clumping together and then become inert and harmless. Only later I learned the product was a scam.
I next tried inexpensive water pitchers with a filter compartment. Most (Pur and Brita for example) did not even claim to remove Fluoride and had to be rejected. One inexpensive filter pitcher did claim to remove Fluoride. I had no problem with the product, but I did have a problem with the company’s practices with regard to ordering, exchanges and refunds. I used the product, but could not recommend it to my readers. So, the search continued.
Types of Home Water Filtration Systems
- Sediment Filters
- Carbon Adsorption
- Ceramic Filters
- Distillation
- UV Filtration
- Reverse Osmosis
- Ion Exchange Filters
These filters ranged from basic and inexpensive to whole house and very expensive. Who should we listen to and how much was it going to cost us to find out… What is the Best Drinking Water?
Who Do You Trust?
My friend Gene Laka, is one of the brightest people I know. He’s a Dartmouth graduate with an Engineering degree, an MBA from Columbia and an MS from NYU in International Administration. He has a financial background as Vice President of Strategic Planning for Citibank/Citigroup and as an international consultant for multi-million dollar projects. He’s even had an article he wrote published on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. When Gene says he has a medical grade machine that can give him the best water possible – I want to know what it is.
He’s also the perfect candidate to test out and render a judgement on what water can do for your health. Because my friend has medical conditions that are debilitating and downright scary, when he says that changing his water has changed his life, I believe him.
When he invited me over to try the water, I was there the day his unit was delivered. Here’s his review of that machine and its water and the changes it has made to his and health and life.
What if it’s just a placebo. Maybe it’s all in his head and wanting so bad to find an answer to his medical issues. But, if after trying his water system and he’s feeling better then that’s a placebo that works. If it really helps it isn’t really a placebo.
What I Know for Sure
People like Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and Beyonce, could drink any water they want. They could fly in gallons of water from Lourdes if they want, they could bathe in it. It turns out they drink the same water that Gene does.
They all asked themselves, “What is the best drinking water?” They all came to the same exact conclusion.
Please, check out my friend Gene’s review of the medical grade water that he believes can change your life.

Hi Phil,
I don’t have any idea about the composition of these elements you mentioned that are present in bottled in most of these waters. You have thought me a lot concerning the importance of water to our body.
Am interested in this wonderful water filtering machine and would love to be in. Thanks for sharing, God bless you.
Lanu, I have no idea what is in your water either. The only way to know for sure would be to have a sample tested by a lab. Then you would know.
The concern for many is not only the toxins but the pH of the water (Acidic vs. Alkaline). The Standard American Diet is particularly Acidic which is believed to contribute to Cancer and other diseases. If you read my friend Gene’s review of his system you will learn more.
I am weary of most bottled water sold in stores, so I stay clear unless I don’t have a choice. Nevertheless I boil tap water, and cool it to drink at home. Its as simple as that. When you know that the water you drink directly from the tap is the same supplied to you to flush the toilet, one gets scary. All you have to do is to minimize the harm done by our so called technology world we now live in, which is very unfortunate.
Hello, Lanu, thanks for your suggestion about boiling your water. Although boiling may help kill some of the germs and bacteria in your water it doesn’t help with the Fluoride, Chlorine, and heavy metals, in fact, it concentrates them and makes things worse.
Phil
I know how much effort you put into this post Phil, and the result clearly shows it. With all of the confusing, contradictory and downright false health related information Americans are being bombarded with your contribution to clearing up the record and providing sound guidance should be welcomed by your readers.
Gene, that’s why it’s so important to listen to someone you know and trust. I’ve probably seen and passed up on the system you introduced me to. I know this wasn’t the first system you looked at, but your reasoning as to why this machine convinced me that this is the Best.
I hope that more people have the benefit of reading this article and heed the warnings of NOT following your suggestions about their consumption of water. I was unaware that only about 1% of all the water on earth is drinkable. Of that 1%, most of this is either polluted, fluoride-induced, or chlorine added for safety reasons. Please, enough is enough.
I am looking into adding a dechlorination filter onto my shower which is suppose to remove the chlorine from the water. I wanted a whole house filtration system but expensive to buy and install.
The best option, is the one you recommend, the Alkaline Water Machine. I will be getting mine soon. Thank you for your recommendation. Goodbye to fluoride and chlorine and acidic ph in my water.
Hey, Ken, you’re going to want to click the link to Gene’s Review article and get his Free eBook. That will also get you his direct Contact Info and please speak to him about the Spa System.
