after more than ten years it’s still working perfectly, and I want a new one. I’m much too frugal to stop using a perfectly good item, just because I want a newer model. Shouldn’t things that have moving parts stop working after a certain amount of time? Hasn’t OXO gotten the memo on ‘Planned Obsolescence’?
Oh well, so much for my problem, let’s get to your problem. If you’re reading this you probably don’t have a salad spinner. You may even be wondering if you need a salad spinner. You do!
Salad spinners, serve several purposes, number one is getting excess water off of your freshly washed lettuce and other produce. Washing not only helps get rid of dirt and grit and other materials on your lettuce, it refreshes it and makes it crisper. Excess water on your salad dilutes your salad dressing. A salad spinner adds to the enjoyment of your salad.
How to use an OXO Salad Spinner is explained in this video. It’s not exactly how I do it, but it get’s you to the same place.
The way I do it is too fill my kitchen sink with cold water, then chop and add my salad for a nice swish and bath. Then add the salad to the basket, let it drain a bit, give a couple of shakes and then take it for a spin.
I have never tried another brand of salad spinner. The PBS tv show ‘Cook’s Country’ recommended the OXO Salad Spinner, and that was good enough for me. I’ve always trusted and used OXO products, they’re always well designed and never failed to be happy with my purchase, (except for their lasting too long).
If My OXO SoftWorks Salad Spinner died today, which OXO would I but tomorrow?
is very tempting. The reason is the wider non-skid base for more stability while spinning. It also comes in Green.

Isn’t she a beauty? Stainless Steel, if my plastic SoftWorks Salad Spinner has lasted more than ten years, I’m guessing this Stainless Steel baby should last a lifetime. It would also make a very attractive serving bowl wouldn’t it? This is the one I want. I have a feeling, I may have to give my SoftWorks Salad Spinner the ‘drop test’ pretty darn soon. ;^)
I hope you’ve enjoyed this review. I really don’t believe you could go wrong with any of these OXO Salad Spinners. If you have any questions, or if you want to leave your own personal review, please leave a comment below. Thanks.
